prosthodontic treatments
A crown that protects the tooth.
A crown is a cap that covers a tooth that has lost structure or had root canal treatment. It protects the tooth and restores its shape and function.
The tooth is shaped, an impression is taken and a temporary crown is worn until the permanent one is ready. The permanent crown is made to match the colour and shape of the neighbouring teeth.
Zirconia and porcelain are both considered. The choice depends on where the tooth is, the chewing forces on it and your aesthetic expectations.
Who is it for?
- Teeth with large fillings or fractures
- Teeth that have had root canal treatment
- Teeth with poor colour or shape

the process
How does it work?

Examination
We assess whether the tooth is suitable for a crown.

Preparation and impression
The tooth is shaped, an impression is taken and a temporary crown is fitted.

Try-in
The fit and colour of the crown are checked.

Cementation
The permanent crown is cemented and your bite is checked.
questions
What you may be wondering.
Zirconia or porcelain?
Both have their place. Zirconia is valued for strength and translucency; which material suits you depends on the position of the tooth and your expectations.
Can a crowned tooth decay?
The natural tooth under a crown can decay at the margin. Regular brushing, cleaning between teeth and check-ups reduce that risk.
How many visits does it take?
Usually a few visits. The exact time depends on the number of teeth and the laboratory stage.
