prosthodontic treatments
A fixed bridge that closes the gap.
A bridge is a fixed prosthesis that fills the place of one or more missing teeth, supported by the teeth or implants on either side of the gap.
When a gap is left open for a long time, neighbouring teeth can tilt into it and the opposing tooth can over-erupt. A bridge closes the gap and protects chewing and the balance of the arch.
For a tooth-supported bridge the teeth on either side are shaped. If those teeth are healthy and you would rather not touch them, an implant-supported option is considered alongside.
Who is it for?
- People missing one or a few teeth
- People whose neighbouring teeth also need crowns
- People who prefer to avoid surgery

the process
How does it work?
Examination
The supporting teeth and gums are assessed.
Preparation and impression
The supporting teeth are shaped, an impression is taken and a temporary bridge is fitted.
Try-in
Fit, colour and bite are checked.
Cementation
The permanent bridge is cemented and care is explained.
questions
What you may be wondering.
A bridge or an implant?
It depends on the neighbouring teeth, your bone and your expectations. If the neighbours are healthy, an implant spares them; if they already need crowns, a bridge may suit. We weigh it up together at the examination.
How do I clean under a bridge?
The underside is cleaned with interdental brushes and special floss. We show you how.
How long does it last?
It depends on the health of the supporting teeth and your oral care. With regular check-ups it can serve for many years.
